About Edinburgh Airport

The military base, which was constructed for the United Britain Air Forces in 1916, was put in service as Turnhouse Airport. In 1947, the first commercial and civil flights were executed from the airport, which continued to be used for military purposes until the Second World War came to an end. The airport was named as Edinburgh Airport and executed its first international flight in 1962; after 1977, it started serving the passengers with its new terminal building. Expanded and renovated in 2004, Edinburgh Airport today became the busiest airport of Scotland by hosting 12 million passengers per year.

Getting to the City Center from Edinburgh Airport

Edinburgh Airport is an international airport serving the city, located 12 km away. You can get to the city center from the airport by taxi, tram, or Airlink. You can also rent a car from the airport to get to the city center.

Airlink Buses

The best way to get to the city center from the airport is by taking an Airlink bus. Airlink buses run very frequently and provide easy and affordable transportation to the city. The total trip takes about 30 minutes and the fare is very reasonable.  

Tram

The tram is another transportation alternative to get to the city center. The tram stop is located at the airport and provides transportation York Place Station, located in the city center. The total trip to the city from the airport by tram takes about 35 minutes.

Taxi

A taxi to the city center from the airport takes about 25 minutes. Taxis are available at the ground level across from the main terminal building. However, taking a taxi can be quite expensive so it isn’t a highly preferred method of transportation.

Edinburgh Airport is located about 12 km from the city center and it is one of the busiest airports in Scotland. The airport is accessible by a variety of transportation alternatives, including taxi, tram, Airlink buses, and rental car.

Airlink Buses

Airlink buses are among the most preferred transportation alternatives to get to the airport from the city center. You can get on the Airlink bus from Waverley Station in the city center and enjoy a convenient ride directly to the airport.

Tram

Another highly preferred method of transportation is the tram. Trams provide convenient and direct access to the airport. You can get on the tram from the York Place or St. Andrew Square stations in the city center and enjoy a 35-minute ride to the airport. Trams run every 8-12 minutes.

Car

Located about 12 km from the city center, Edinburgh Airport is easily accessible by road. The airport is situated on the A8 Glasgow-Edinburgh road and is also accessible by the M8 and M9 motorways from Glasgow and Stirling. The airport’s parking lot features short-term and long-term options; the long-term parking lot is located a short bus ride from the terminal.
