About Ethiopia

Ethiopia, officially known as the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, is located in East Africa. It shares its borders with Sudan and Eritrea to the north, Djibouti and Somalia to the east, Kenya to the south, and Sudan to the west. Ethiopia, one of Africa's oldest independent states, has a deep-rooted tradition dating back centuries. Among the first tribes to settle in Ethiopia after gaining independence were the Hamites and Sudanese.
Ethiopia consists of 9 Regional States and two administrative councils, with Addis Ababa being the capital. Other significant cities in the country include Adama, Aksum, Bahir Dar, Dire Dawa, Gondar, Harar, Lalibela, and Mekele. Ethiopia has a population of nearly 120 million, and its official language is Amharic. Amharas are approximately 35% of the population, but Tigrinya, Oromigna, Guaragigna, Somali, Arabic, and English are spoken commonly in the country. The official currency of Ethiopia is the Ethiopian Birr.
Ethiopia has an agrarian-based economy, and it plays a crucial role in coffee production on the global stage, almost 15 million people in the country make their living from coffee production. Livestock farming is also well-developed, and Ethiopia's major exports include cattle, leather, hides, oilseeds, pulses, gold, and coffee.
With 90% of the population residing in rural areas, the growth of the agricultural sector is vital to the country's development. Despite being poor in mineral resources, agriculture compensates for this deficiency. Regarding the manufacturing sector, the production of textiles, leather, furniture, cement, and chemicals are the most important contributors to its economy.
Ethiopia's climate is a tropical monsoon, characterized by heavy rain with strong wind. The temperature generally ranges from 20 to 40 degrees Celsius throughout the year. Geographically, the country is located within the subequatorial and tropical climate zones, and the average precipitation varies by region.
Festivals in Ethiopia, a country with a rich cultural heritage, are joyfully celebrated and attract significant attention from tourists. Some of the most popular festivals include Ethiopian Christmas, celebrated on January 7th, the Battle of Adwa on March 2nd, Easter in March and April, and the Arba Minch Music and Dance Festival held in Arba Minch every December.
The traditional Ethiopian cuisine is known for its emphasis on spices and unique sauces. Local dishes are often prepared with spicy sauce blends, and meat-based dishes are a staple. Foods like injera, a type of flatbread, and Shiro wat, a vegetable stew, are among the most popular flavors in Ethiopian cuisine. Restaurants offering international cuisine, including Indian and Asian cuisines, can be found in the country.
