About Aberdeen

Aberdeen is the third most populated city in Scotland and is referred to as the “Granite City”, “the Grey City” and “the Silver City with Golden Sands” due to the gray hues that dominate the structures in the city. Aberdeen also had the nicknames of the “Oil Capital of Europe” or “the Energy Capital of Europe” after the discovery of North Sea oil in the 1970s. The city is home to the busiest harbor in the north of the United Kingdom and one of the busiest heliports in the world.

Electronic design and development industry, research in agriculture, fishing, and the oil industry drive the city’s economy. Aberdeen is an important production site for oil as well as forest products, paper, and deep-sea fisheries. Aberdeen’s beautiful beaches have donned it the nickname of “Golden Sands”. The city also attracts tourists because of it historic structures and museums. The Aberdeen Maritime Museum is particularly interesting since the city is historically a fisherman’s town. Aberdeen is accessible by water via the port, train via the railway station and by air via Aberdeen Airport. Aberdeen Airport is located 10 km northwest of the city center. There are bus lines that provide transportation between Aberdeen Airport and the city center.

There are a variety of transportation alternatives available to get to the city center from Aberdeen International Airport, which is only 10 km away. Methods of transportation available to get to the city center from the airport include buses, trains, taxis, or rental cars.

Taxi

Taking a taxi to the city from the airport is a very convenient method of transportation. Comcab taxis are the only authorized taxi company that serves the airport. This company offers passengers the opportunity to make a reservation in advance and accepts payments via credit card. The taxi company also features vehicles that are equipped to handle special requirements, such as wheelchairs.

Bus

There are two bus lines that provide transportation from the airport to the city center. Bus line 80 operates from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm on weekdays and bus line 727 operates from 4:30 am to 12 am on weekdays and from 5:30 am to 11 pm on weekends. Both buses depart from the bus terminal located at the airport. You have to get a bus ticket in advance. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the city center from the airport by bus.

Train

The train station is located about 3 km from the airport and is accessible by bus or taxi. Traveling to the city by train is a more affordable transportation alternative. You can purchase tickets at the station or make a reservation online in advance. If you book a ticket online it is almost half the price. The train runs from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm on weekdays. Trains run every hour Monday to Saturday and less frequently on Sundays.

Rental Car

There are various rental car companies at the airport that serve passengers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Rental car companies at the airport that you can choose from include Avis, Hertz, National, Europcar and Enterprise. You can easily rent the brand and model vehicle you want and enjoy a nice drive to the city.
