About Amarillo

Located in Texas, United States, Amarillo is the 14th most populated city and the largest city in the state. A portion of the city has extended to the Randall region. According to the 2010 census, the city’s population was around 190 thousand. The city was first established in the Llano Estacado region under the name Oneida. The region, which was convenient for the railway, developed over time thanks to freight transportation. The city has the country’s most productive helium field and has the title of the “Helium Capital of the World”. Also known as “The Yellow Rose of Texas”, the city is one of the nation’s largest meat packing areas. It has a semi-arid climate and daytime temperatures vary.

Winds from the north can make the weather a bit warmer and there are snowstorms during the winter. According to the 2010 census 60% of the population was White, 6% Black or African American, and the remainder was Hispanic, American Indian, or Alaska Native. The Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport is located 16 km east of Amarillo’s business center and is the city’s most common airport. You can fly to Dallas, Houston, Denver, and Las Vegas from this airport. The Tradewind Airport is another form of air transit, located in the Randall region that the city has extended to. The Buffalo Airport is another airport located in the Randall region.
