About Bandirma
Located in the Turkish province of Balikesir, Bandirma, is located on the southern coast of the Marmara Sea. Bandirma has been known throughout history by its various Greek names of Kizikos, Panderma, and Panormos. Today it is home to one of largest ferry ports in Turkey, with ferry voyages to both Istanbul and Greece departing regularly. However, several bus companies also offer tickets from Istanbul and Ankara.
In Bandirma, the world famous Manyas Bird Sanctuary, Bandirma Archaeological Museum, Martyrs' Memorial, Erdek Island, Kapıdağ Peninsula, and Avşar Island are all worth a visit. It is also an important place to visit if you are interesting in archaeological remains historical temples. Daskyleion and Kyzikos are two historical sites in the region that are udner excevations, with artifacts displayed at the archaeological museum. The museum is open to visitors every day of the week except Monday.
The Manyas Bird Sanctuary is located 20 km away and is a sort of open-air museum where you can see many different species of both fauna and flora. Pine, acorn, oak-like trees, many different species of water birds, spotted turtles, and cute green frogs are all visible here.
When it comes to dining Bandirma is a great place to try bluefish, bonito, çinakop, bream, and mackerel. Summer is the best season to see Bandirma. The unique natural landscape, the sea, the warm sun and the various archaeological sites and museumsof the area definitely make this town worth a visit.
