About Casablanca
Casablanca is the largest and most touristic city of Morocco, with a population of almost 4 million. Meaning "white house" in Spanish, this historical port city on the Atlantic Ocean became famous with the Hollywood movie of the same name.
There are a lot of historical structures to be seen in the city. Maze-like narrow streets and shops, colorful inlaid decorations and street sellers make up the fabric of the famous Medina district. Casablanca, where Arabs, Spanish, Portuguese and French once ruled, still possesses a multi-cultural atomsphere as a result of this colonial legacy. In addition to Arabic, French is also widely spoken in the city.
In addition to the old city, Casablanca became famous as a place where architects of Paris Fine Arts Academy learned modern urbanism theories, after the city was damanged in a 1755 earthquake. These architects helped construct the New City, home to luxurious villas, the posh Corniche Avenue, and many hip bars, cafes and restaurants. Place Mohammed Square is the city's administrative center where you can find works of Moroccan and French architecture. In the city the places such as Twin Center La Ligue Arabe park, Anfa and French harbor may also be visited.
There is a temperate climate in Casablanca. With the influence of the sea, winters are mild. However, summers are hot and dry. The temperature difference between day and night is high, so be sure to pack accordingly. We can say that the most appropriate times to visit are in the spring and autumn months.
Mohammed V International Airport provides service in Casablanca. You can get access from the airport, which is 30 km away from the city, by train, bus or taxi.
