Kompong Chhnang city, located in the same named area of Cambodia, is also the center of the region. The city, in the west of the Tonle Sap River, is also known as a port city. The small city is connected to Phnom Penh via a motorway and a railway. The city economy is based on rice production. Fishing is also an important economic activity carried out in rainy seasons.
