Longyerabyen is an administration center to Norway and is located in the Arctic Sea. Longyerabyen is the capital of the area Svalbard Archipelago and is a small settlement covered with snow and ice for most of the year. The town is located on Spitsbergen Island in the archipelago. It is home to the Global Seed Vault, which was built in 2008, which is a preserving warehouse. Against the possibility of a global crises, the seeds of all plants with food properties in the world are kept in the vault which was established on a mountain in Longyearbyen. The walls of the warehouse were built to with stand nuclear bomb attacks.

Due to Longyearbyen location within the Arctic Circle, it is the northermost place to find an inhabited settlement. UNESCO protected areas of wildlife are; polar bears, whales, seagulls, reindeers and seal species, which attract the attention of nature tourism enthusiasts. It is known that polar bears that roam freely on the lands around the residential area are more than the number of people during the summer months.
