Mexicali which is also known as Chicali, is the capital of the state of Baja California in Mexico and the northernmost city of Latin America. Mexicali is located just across the border from Calexico in California. It has grown from a small border town to a modern city with the highest standard of living in Mexico. The citys proximity to the United States of America makes Mexicali a very popular tourist destination, especially for day trips.

In one of the hundreds of Chinese food restaurants in La Chinesca, Mexico's largest Chinese neighborhood, you must definitely eat Chinese food. As a bonus, you can take a tour in the underground basement tunnels and rooms and see where there were once illegal brothels and casinos. Another gastronomic richness of Mexicali is its handmade beer. It is definitely the region that is home to the most prestigious breweries in the country and you should try Cucapa Imperial Stout.
You can take a trip to the Canon de Guadalupe region to discover the natural beauty of Mexicali. You can take walks in the valley of this beautiful canyon, swim in its natural spas and have a perfect day. Among the white sands and lagoons of Laguna Salada you can have a good time and you can take a walk in its walking routes.
For nature lovers seeking adventure, we can recommend sandboarding. On the fine white sand dunes of Los Algodones, you can do sports with the most beautiful sceneric views. During the month of March, Cuervitos sand dunes are also the official venue for international championships such as "Baja Sandboard". If you are there during the championship period, you should definitely watch it. If you want to push yourself a little harder, the Guadalupe Canyon has challenging climbs, stunning hiking trails, mountain biking, archaeological sightseeing tours and relaxing spas. It offers the full "Oasis in the Desert" experience.
In Mexicali you can taste local mexican flavors blended with traditional Chinese flavors and you can also try special tastes from the world cuisine. Mexicali is known as "the city that captures the sun," as it reaches record desert temperatures during the summer months. Therefore, the best time to travel to Mexicali is; the end of May - mid July to mid August - early October. So while it is a bit protected from the summer heat, you can still enjoy the warm air.
