Musoma is located in the Tanzania's northern Mara Region, on the shores of Lake Victoria, very close to the Kenyan and Ugandan borders. Lake Victoria is very important for the city. Fish from the sea are the greatest economic source of the city. On the other hand, the lake is also valuable in terms of ferry transportation and port trading. The city also has Musoma Airport. City transportation is mainly provided by blue colored minibuses. The ethnically diverse Musoma also has unfortunately been the site of civil and ethnic conflicts int he past. Temperatures in Musoma are measured around 18-19C year-round, and no major weather changes occur. However, in March, April and May there are severe rains even though the temperature remains constant. The next three months are almost entirely dry. There are picnic areas and walking paths in the green surroundings around Lake Victoria. In addition, there are beaches and small facilities in certain places where people can swim in the lake or float on rubber tubes.
