About Tashkent

Tashkent is the capital city and largest city of Uzbekistan. Its location along the Silk Road made the city an important hub throughout history. After an earthquake in 1966 nearly destroyed the entire city it was rebuilt. Tashkent bears the characteristics of a Russian city, with expansive parks, squares, and wide boulevards.

The majority of the city’s population is made up of Uzbeks, followed by Russians, Tatars, and other ethnic groups. Even though Uzbekistan experiences a continental climate, Tashkent is a bit drier since it is a lush green city.  Summers are hot and dry, with temperatures rising to 40 degrees. Winters are cold.
