About Tashkent

Tashkent is the capital city and largest city of Uzbekistan. Its location along the Silk Road made the city an important hub throughout history. After an earthquake in 1966 nearly destroyed the entire city it was rebuilt. Tashkent bears the characteristics of a Russian city, with expansive parks, squares, and wide boulevards.

The majority of the city’s population is made up of Uzbeks, followed by Russians, Tatars, and other ethnic groups. Places to visit in the city include the Alisher Navoi Opera and Ballet Theatre, Alisher Navoi National Park, Chorsu Bazaar, the Kukeldash Madrasah, which stands out for its blue dome, Tashkent Television Tower, the Old City district, and the Amir Timur Museum. Tashkent is considered the cultural capital of Central Asia and is rich in the arts, culture, and entertainment. Saligokh Street is an important avenue filled with shops and cafes. You can find famous brand name stores on Pushkin Street.

The Tashkent Beer Festival takes place every June. The best time to visit the city is in the spring. Even though Uzbekistan experiences a continental climate, Tashkent is a bit drier since it is a lush green city.  Summers are hot and dry, with temperatures rising to 40 degrees. Winters are cold. It is customary to enjoy tea before and after meals. Overall it is not an expensive city. Getting around in the city is affordable. There are 2 flights per week from London to Tashkent; the flight duration is at least 7 hours. Flights from New York to Tashkent have at least 1 layover and take at least 14 hours. The metro system makes urban transportation fairly easy and features some of the most decorative stations in the world.

Transportation to and from this large airport is very easy. Passengers can also take advantage of the services offered at the airport before their flight or after they land. You can get the city center from the airport by taxi, bus, transfer services or rental car.

Taxi

Private taxi firms serving Tashkent International Airport provide easy access to the city center. Taking a taxi is one of the fastest, safest, and most convenient ways to get to the city. By taxi, it takes about 30 minutes to get to the city center.

Bus

You can also take a bus to get to the city center from Tashkent International Airport. Buses are a more affordable option compared to taxis. It takes about 45 minutes to get to the city center from the airport by bus. Buses depart in front of the terminal building at every hour of the day.

Transfer Services

You can also get to the city center from the airport by using a shuttle service offered to you by the hotel you are staying at. Hotels offer transfer vehicles with a chauffeur, providing comfortable transportation directly from the airport to your hotel.  

Rental Cars

Another transportation method to get to the city center is by rental car. You can rent a car from the various rental car companies located at the airport and enjoy a pleasant drive to the city.

Tashkent International Airport, located 12 km from the city center, is the main international airport of Uzbekistan. The airport is the busiest airport in Central Asia. Tashkent International Airport has two terminals, one for domestic flights and one for international flights. The airport has large parking lots and the terminal buildings contain a variety of services.

The airport also features restaurants and bars that serve traditional and national dishes and a store where you can shop for various souvenirs, cosmetics, and more.
