Located along the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan’s capital Baku is a rising star in the East gaining notoriety for its oil, gas, and caviar. You can get to the airport, which is located 25 km away, from the city center by car or a combination of the metro and airport buses.
The easiest and cheapest way to get to the airport from the city center is by airport bus. Bus line 116 departs from Vurgun Park, located in central Baku, and takes about 50 minutes to get to the airport.
The metro system in Baku provides transportation to many central locations in the city like the Old City, 28 May Street, and the Caspian Sea. However, to get to the airport from the city center you have to first take the metro and then get on a bus. From central locations in the city like the Old City, Cafer Cabbari, and Khatai you can take the metro to the 28 May and Koroglu stations. From here you can get on bus line 116, which runs to the airport or take a taxi to the airport.
Since the city is rich in oil, fuel is cheap, making traveling by car a very attractive option. Getting to the city center from the airport is very easy. One of the city’s most important avenues, Heydar Aliyev Avenue will connect you to the Boyuk Shor Highway, which goes to the airport. From the highway take the Airport exit. The airport contains indoor and outdoor parking lots where you can park your personal car for a certain fee.
Although it is not very large Heydar Aliyev International Airport is an important junction, especially for passengers traveling between Europe and Asia. The airport offers passengers a variety of eating, drinking, and shopping venues.
The airport has 2 terminals, Terminal 1, which was completely renovated, and Terminal 2, which serves domestic flights. The airport contains world famous fast food chains like Burger King, McDonald’s, and KFC, as well as restaurants that offer delicious flavors unique to Azerbaijani cuisine.
The international terminal has a large Duty Free shop as well as souvenir shops where you can buy items unique to Russian and Azeri culture. The airport features free wireless internet connection.
When you arrive at Kigali Airport you will see taxi drivers inviting passengers to their taxis at the terminal exit. Airport taxis are one of the most practical vehicles you can choose to travel to Kigali city center. If the cost of airport taxis is too high, if you exit the terminal and walk for a few minutes you can stop the other taxi services operating in the area. Kiagali International Airport which is 5 kilometers from Kigali city center does not have public transportation vehicles such as buses. Because of this, taxis are the first alternative to the center. Car rental is ideal for travellers planning to spend a few days in and around Kigali.

You can find a vehicle to travel to Kigali city center by leaving the airport, but this option is not recommended for security reasons especially for those who are travelling to Kigali for the first time. 3 or 4 people that are travelling together can travel in the same taxi. 5 or more passengers travelling together can rent a vehicle suitable for more crowded groups and travel that way to Kigali city center.
After you have landed at Kigali International Airport you can find car rental alternatives in the terminal. Visitors travelling to the area for the first time can rent a car or speak with their hotel in advance to find a suitable service vehicle that will bring them to Kigali city center. The terminals at Kigali International Airport are very close to each other, so you can walk from one terminal to another. After renting a car it maybe a bit confusing at first, so be sure to get a map that shows the routes in the area in detail so that you can find your way around the Kigali roads more easily.
At the exit of Kigali International Airport you can see motorcycle taxis that serve the area. Motorcycle taxis are cheaper than classic taxis but they are not very comfortable. However, those who want a more economical vehicle can get to Kigali city center quickly by the motorcycle taxis. Remember that motorcycle taxis are vehicles that can not take passengers with heavy luggage.
