About Burgas
Burgas is the second largest coastal city in Bulgaria, after Varna. It is located on the south of the Black Sea coastline, bordering Kirklareli, Turkey. Burgas is the 4th largest city in the country, after Sofia, Plovdiv, and Varna. Burgas was under Ottoman rule from 1367-1908. Burgas is a port city, therefore an important part of the economy is derived from the tourism sector. The city’s golden sand coastline extending along the Black Sea attracts a lot of tourists, particularly those from EU countries. The city is reminiscent of a typical European city with its architecture, landscaping, preserved historic buildings, and tree-lined streets and avenues. The streets that best reflect the city’s historic nature are Aleksandrovska Street and Aleko Bogoridi Street. The Sea Garden, extending between Demokratsia Street and Burgas Beach, is a very popular park and recreation area. Other places worth visiting are the Burgas Opera House, Burgas Central Railway Station, and Burgas Central Post Office. Bulgaria’s unique small-town island that has a rich history dating back to the Greeks, Nesebar, also called the “Old City”, is 35 km away from Burgas.
Major sites to see in the city include the famous Aleksandrovska Street, also known as the Largo Street, the Compass, which is also known as ‘The Hub’ among locals and marks the 0 kilometer point of the city, the Arch St. Nikolay, which is believed to give you health and good fortune when you walk underneath it, the Petro Zadorski gallery, which has around 2,000 statues on exhibit, and the Gramophone and cathedral, which are symbols of the city. The public beach, which is 2 km long, and Sunny Beach, which is frequented by celebrities and a more affluent crowd, are the most popular places to swim. Burgas has a temperate climate. The Burgas International Airport is located 10 km from the city center.

There are taximeters in all of the taxis and you are charged based on the distance you traveled and the time spent in the traffic. With the highway connecting Sofia and Burgas, you can also visit the Bulgarian capital with the intercity buses or renting a car. If you rent a car, you should be careful about parking. The officers in the parking areas collect the fee in advance and give the receipt. If you do not pay in advance, your car will have a lock on its tire and a parking ticket will cost you about 15 leva. If you wish to reach the city center from Burgas International Airport by public transport, you can take the municipal bus. Airport shuttle services offer this service a little more costly but more comfortable.
If you are in a rush, you can reach the city center faster by taxi. If you want to have independent and comfortable transportation during your travel, you can also consider renting a car.
Bus
If you want to reach the city center by public transport, you can reach the city center in about half an hour by bus which you will get from the bus stops at the exit of the departing passenger terminal. The bus number for the city center is 15.
Hotel Shuttle
If you do not want to use public transport, you can choose your hotel’s shuttle service. Hotel shuttles meet customers at the exit of the baggage delivery area and take them to the hotel door quickly and smoothly. It's a little more costly. But you should not forget that every hotel does not provide this service. If you check with your hotel and they provide this service, you need to book in advance.
Taxi
Taxis located at the airport are managed by Eko Taxi. You can reach the city center safely, at standard prices, and conveniently, with an airport-contracted taxi operated by a private company. The journey takes about 20 minutes.
Car Rental
At the airport there are offices of nine different car rental companies. Keep in mind that you must have an international driver's license to rent a car.
Airport Shuttle Service
The shuttles at the airport take passengers directly to the city center. It is more expensive than the municipal buses but provides a more convenient transportation service.
